• Current hurdles faced in ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines were openly discussed, ranging from adoption barriers to resource limitations.

Malaysia’s Initiatives

• The QS Division of RISM has formally endorsed the establishment of the National BIM Hub, developed in collaboration with MyBIM Centre (CIDB eConstruct Services).
• This Hub will serve as a central repository for BIM materials and documentation, offering researchers and stakeholders a comprehensive reference centre for all matters related to BIM.
• In BIM QTO applications, software such as Glodon, CostX, and Cype are actively utilized.
• With the current shortage of entry-level and mid-level quantity surveyors in QS firms, alternative collaboration methods between firms and individuals are being explored.
• The concept of code-sharing is under consideration, while tools like BlenderBIM and BrisCad (which support the IFC file format) are being evaluated for compatibility with SMM3.
• Further research into Uniclass and COBIE is necessary to strengthen standardisation in Works and FM, and the use of Navisworks for quantification has also been suggested.
